Is Apidra® (Insulin Glulisine) the Same as Humalog®?
Humalog and Apidra® are similar. Both of these medications react quickly to insulin. According to their manufacturer Sanofi-Aventis, Apidra® (insulin glulisine) works faster than both.
Does Insulin Glulisine React Rapidly to Blood Glucose?
Apidra® (insulin glulisine) is flexible mealtime insulin that acts quickly and adapts to your mealtime needs. An injection of this medicine should be given to the stomach, upper arm, or leg approximately 15 minutes before indulging in a meal or within 20 minutes after eating.
How Long Does an Injection of Insulin Glulisine Last?
In contrast, Apidra® (insulin glulisine) is a long-acting fast-acting insulin that increases effectiveness within 15 minutes, peaks in about one hour, and remains active for two to four hours.
Is it Possible to mix Apidra® and Lantus®?
Combining Lantus® and Apidra® (insulin glulisine) is not recommended. Apidra® (insulin glulisine) and NPH insulin (Humulin N or Novolin N) are the only insulins that can be combined for subcutaneous injection. If you want to control blood sugar during the day, you can combine Lantus® with Apidra® (insulin glulisine).
What is the Proper Dosage for Insulin Glulisine?
Insulin glulisine must be prescribed individually. People receiving insulin therapy should monitor their blood sugar regularly. Usually, between 0.5 and 1 unit are needed per kg of body weight per day, though there may be some variation.
